Traditional Physiotherapy (Modalities) in South Edmonton & St. Albert

When people think of physiotherapy, they often think of the 'machines' we commonly use (listed below). These types of treatment have been around for many decades, and are helpful in treating acute injuries more often than chronic ones. If there is a modality that will help you, we will certainly offer it, but don't be surprised if your problem resolves without any of these 'traditional' types of treatment. It all depends on your particular condition.

What types of Physiotherapy Modalities do we have?

  • Ultrasound - used for swelling control and tissue healing.
  • TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) - used for relief of pain and spasm.
  • EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) - used for strengthening very weak muscles.
  • IFC (Interferential Current) - used for control of pain and swelling.
  • SWD (Short Wave Diathermy) - used for heating structures located deep within the body, not accessible to a surface heating pad.
  • Heat/Ice - used to control pain, swelling and spasm, and to speed tissue healing.
